Major in Sociology

From 2016-2021, I attended Thompson Rivers University in the Bachelor of Arts program. I decided to major in Sociology because I am very interested in understanding the way people are within society which I believe will help me as I become a teacher. I took a variety of Sociology courses including Feminist Theory, Social Inequality, Gender Relations and many more interesting topics that helped expand my perspective on important issues within society. I believe that my Sociology background will help me as an educator because it allowed me to appreciate and understand different cultures and perspectives. As a future teacher, classrooms are filled with different people of various backgrounds therefore I want to be an inclusive, diverse educator.

Minor in English

I have always had a passion for exploring and reflecting on literature therefore I decided to minor in English. Connecting to my major in Sociology, my English minor allowed me to learn and connect with a variety of diverse perspectives. I have gained many written and verbal skills throughout my University degree because of the opportunity the English courses have provided me with. I was able to develop public speaking skills that will be beneficial in my future classroom because it helped me organize my material as well as calm my nerves.

Deans List

In my last two semesters of my undergrad I was awarded the achievement of the Deans List. I received a GPA of 3.80 in the fall semester 2020, and a 4.06 in the winter semester 2021. In my first semester of the Bachelor of Education program I achieved a GPA of 4.20. I believe I achieved this because of how interested I am in teaching and learning. During the fall and winter semester of 2022 and the fall semester of 2023 I achieved the Dean’s list in the Education program. My hard work and dedication to my studies allowed me to accomplish this award. The drive and passion I have for education will continue forward throughout my entire career.
